At the forefront, let's delve into the significance behind our exclusive patent ingredient: UNISOUL® Renew, making it easier for everyone to comprehend the essence of the raw material.
We've named this material, a thistle ion solvent, UNISOUL® Renew.
UNISOUL® is one of the trademarks we've applied for, resonating harmoniously with our brand name, UNILIPO.
The "UNI" in UNISOUL® signifies uniqueness, while "SOUL" conveys the essence of a soul. This implies a raw material with a distinctive soul, reflecting our unique research and development philosophy, which may differ from many other manufacturers.
The word "Renew" signifying a fresh start. This aligns perfectly with the deep meaning of thistle ion solvent, as it can reinvigorate aging skin cells.
The efficacy of milk thistle extract in skincare is noteworthy
When it comes to combating pigmentation, a 0.7% concentration of milk thistle extract can stand up to a 4% hydroquinone, not only matching its depigmenting effects but also showing no observed side effects.
In another three-party randomized double-blind clinical study, a 0.7% milk thistle extract cream significantly reduced the area of melasma. Remarkably, noticeable effects were observed as early as the first week, making it almost synonymous with rapid results.
Furthermore, in the realm of anti-aging, milk thistle is certainly not willing to concede to other flagship ingredients. Its unique approach involves rekindling aging cells, coaxing them back to a youthful state. However, if a cell is beyond rejuvenation, it mercilessly eliminates it – a simple and robust strategy.
Clinically, its effectiveness is remarkable. According to data from the raw material supplier Clariant, continuous use for 8 weeks can significantly reduce facial skin wrinkles and even diminish stubborn neck lines.
Additionally, milk thistle extract serves as a highly effective natural photoprotective ingredient, significantly mitigating issues related to skin photoaging.
For instance, when used in conjunction with physical sunscreens like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, it can markedly enhance the SPF value of the sun protection ingredients.
Now, let's delve into the details of the new raw material for which we have submitted a patent application—UNISOUL® Renew.
Process Optimization
As widely known, milk thistle extract faces challenges due to its poor water solubility, leading to low bioavailability (a characteristic shared with curcumin). To address this, we have undertaken optimizations in both extraction and encapsulation processes.
Extraction Process Optimization
In our laboratory experiments, we have employed distinct purification techniques to identify key active components, such as silymarin and isosilybin, within milk thistle extract.
Results indicate that the content obtained through supercritical extraction significantly surpasses that achieved using organic solvents like acetic ether and hexane. This highlights the superiority of supercritical extraction in maximizing the concentration of crucial components compared to traditional methods.
Synthesis Process Optimization
Utilizing a molecular self-assembly synthesis mechanism, we have optimized the synthetic process by assembling milk thistle extract with a complex of ascorbyl glucoside and betaine. This assembly results in the formation of a supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent.

Scalp Absorption
We initially conducted tests on the transdermal absorption efficacy of the milk thistle ion solvent.
The results indicate that, in comparison to conventional extracts, the test group using the supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent still showed detectable residues of milk thistle extract within the skin after 24 hours (529 ug/π cm2). In contrast, the control group fell below the detection limit, with no detectable presence of milk thistle extract.
This effectively addresses the drawbacks of instability and low absorption efficiency often associated with using milk thistle in serums. However, with improved penetration, does it lead to increased irritability and cytotoxicity?
Toxicity Impact
Next, we conducted tests to evaluate the toxicity impact of the supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent on human cells. The results indicate that, at an addition level of 1mg/ml, the safety margin of the supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent is exceptionally high.
Antioxidant Efficacy
Subsequently, we assessed its antioxidant efficacy. It was observed that even at a low concentration of 0.01%, the supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent could eliminate over 80% of ABTS+ free radicals, showcasing its potent antioxidant effects.
Clinical Efficacy
Moving on to clinical efficacy trials on the human body, which is even more exciting than in vitro experiments.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects
Firstly, the anti-inflammatory effects of the milk thistle ion solvent are noteworthy. Even at low concentrations applied topically, there is a significant reduction in facial redness at both 14 and 28 days, indicating a decrease in skin inflammation.
Wrinkle Reduction
Similarly, the wrinkle reduction effects are remarkable. It can be observed that after 28 days of use, there is a significant reduction in forehead lines, crow's feet around the eyes, dynamic wrinkles, and the number of wrinkles in the nasolabial folds.
Statistical data reveals that after 28 days of using the milk thistle ion solvent, there is a notable reduction in wrinkle numbers: a decrease of 17.5% in forehead wrinkles, 16.9% in crow's feet around the eyes, and 26.7% in fine lines in the nasolabial folds.
Simultaneously, milk thistle extract can enhance the skin elasticity and improve skin firmness for users. Statistical results indicate a notable increase in skin elasticity (R2) by 5.95% and an improvement in firmness (F4) by 7.1%.
In clinical trials on the human body, the supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent has also demonstrated the ability to lighten pigmentation, reduce melanin production, and brighten the overall complexion.
After 14 and 28 days of use, we assessed the changes in brown spots among different test subjects
After 28 days of use, there was a 1.27% improvement in the Melanin Index (MI) and a 6.14% improvement in Individual Typology Angle (ITA°), indicating a significant brightening effect and reduction in melanin levels with the use of the supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent.
In summary:
Through the innovative use of specific supramolecular coupling technology with ascorbyl glucoside and betaine, we have successfully developed a novel supramolecular milk thistle ion solvent. This molecular-level solution addresses solubility and absorption issues, mitigates potential cytotoxicity concerns associated with high concentrations of milk thistle extract, and enhances both in vitro and in vivo antioxidant effects. Consequently, it optimizes the efficacy in skin whitening, anti-aging, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and redness-reducing benefits.
The research findings have been submitted for patent consideration (Patent Application Number: 202310605230.X) and are also being prepared for submission to publish in a SCI journal.
